Blue Sky Devil's Lake State Park

It looks like we’ve got a great weekend on tap here in the Devil’s Lake State Park region! The hard part is deciding what to do with it. Hiking? Biking? Kayaking? A winery? A concert? Well, let me offer some suggestions…

Weather

A quick look at this weekends weather is telling me that Friday and Saturday will be sunny and around 80F. Sunday brings a higher chance of thunderstorms, but it still looks pretty good. Here’s one local weather forecast.

Trail Report

poison Ivy
Watch for poison ivy along the trails!

Trails are in good shape other than Steinke Basin and parts of the Uplands Trail. Bikes are currently not allowed on the Uplands Trail. You can read more here. Poison Ivy and Wild Parsnip are out, so watch where you walk!

Most area bike trails are open, other than sections of the 400 and Elroy-Sparta which are still closed due to flood damage last season. We’ve got more Sauk County bike riding info here.

Nature & Wildlife

Fawn West of Baraboo

There have been lots of fawns out and about recently, many are still a bit wobbly on their feet. So be extra careful out on the roads and if you come across a fawn while out hiking or biking. Take your pic, but move along quickly. AND don’t worry if you don’t see mom, she’s nearby.

Flower lovers will enjoy the trails this weekend, as there are lots of flowers out there including, if you are lucky, Lady Slipper Orchids.

Wrap Up

As I said, it’s going to be a great weekend and I hope you get a chance to get out and enjoy it. As always, I encourage you to get on and explore a new spot. If you’ve never visited Natural Bridge State Park, maybe this is the weekend? Maybe it’s your weekend to kayak down the Baraboo river or bike the 400? How ever you spend your weekend. Be kind, be safe.
