Beach and picnic areas

1 hour or more

The swimming beaches on both shores are a short walk from the main parking lots. Day-use areas have picnic tables, grills, and restrooms. Concessions sell food, drinks, and basic supplies when open — but bringing your own food is smart on a busy weekend lines can be long.

Hiking the bluffs

2–4 hours

The views from the East Bluff are what most people come for — quartzite outcrops above the lake, the full sweep of the Baraboo Hills behind you. The East Bluff Trail takes 3 to 4 hours and involves real climbing. If you have an hour or two, or want a flatter walk, the Tumbled Rocks Trail along the base of the West Bluff and the paved beach paths are solid alternatives that don’t require the same effort.

Kayak, canoe and SUP rentals

1–2 hours

Concessions on both shores rent kayaks, canoes, paddleboats, and standup paddleboards by the hour. Paddling a full circuit of the lake takes about two hours. No reservation needed — rent on arrival during operating hours.

Seasonal, typically Memorial Day through Labor Day. Verify availability before your visit.

Nature center

30–45 minutes

Worth a half hour if you’re curious about the geology or wildlife. Live Wisconsin reptiles and amphibians, displays on the park’s glacial history, and staff who can tell you what’s worth seeing that day. Open Memorial Day through Labor Day, daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Labor Day through Columbus Day, Thursday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Hours may vary due to staffing — verify before your visit.
