Current Report: April 18th, 2024

Rain remains the top story in the Devil’s Lake State Park region. As a result, most paved trails are in fair condition while all non-paved trails are wet with getting pretty muddy. Expect the muddiest areas on Steinke Basin and the lower part of the Uplands Trail. You’ll also experience mud when approaching the Devil’s Doorway rock formation, so use caution as you hike down to the doorway. In addition, water continues to flow down the stairway in the gap of the Potholes trail, making it slick as well. Please use caution and check your footing while hiking in these areas.

Compression and erosion damage are serious problems along popular trails and overlooks within the park. This time of year, when the soil is still wet, walking off-trail in high-use areas further damages the landscape. Please stay on the trail, especially in popular hiking areas.
