Over the last few days, we’ve seen a few folks getting their recreational kayaks out at Devil’s Lake State Park while there is still some ice on the water. Let me be clear, if you don’t have the proper gear and end up in the water, you are in trouble. AND with the current COVID crisis, chances of a fast rescue are pretty slim. As someone who spent many years as a certified kayaking coach, I can’t help but be concerned! This past post goes into the details of cold water shock, the gasping reflex, hypothermia and more. So with that said, if you really want to see what it’s like out there, we donned our dry suits and went out last evening to create a bit of video. Be sure to listen for the Opera singer! That was unexpected. ;)
