There are many ways to enjoy the Baraboo Hills region beyond Devil’s Lake State Park. We are always encouraging folks to get out and explore all of Sauk County! One way to do that is on the coach of a historic train at Mid-Continent Railway Museum (MCRM) just minutes away in North Freedom.

This summer we asked the folks at MCRM if they would allow us to create a “Slow TV” video tour just for you. These programs which first became popular in Scandinavia, place cameras on trains, ships, canal boats, cars, and even hikers to document their travels. These quiet, unscripted videos are often many hours long with no music no narration. Lovers of slow TV programs often find these video tours to be amazingly relaxing, sometimes addictive, and yes, even fascinating!

At the Mid-Continent Railway Museum, we take the complete, almost 7-mile tour, which lasts about 55 minutes. (That would make this a blazingly fast, slow tv program!) Along the way, we get to check out the Wisconsin Landscape, learn a few facts and get a little glimpse into the day of the railwaymen. Thanks to Conductor Jeff and Trainman Ron for putting up with the cameras! Oh, and bonus points if you catch a glimpse of the Devil’s Chair AND that big dragonfly!

The best way to watch a slow tv video is on the big screen in your living room. If you have a fairly modern TV just use your YouTube App and search, “Mid-Continent Railway Museum Train Ride 2019“.
