2019 has been harsh by any standard. We’ve gone from snowstorm to snowstorm, to bitter cold and back to snow for nearly two months now. And while we know our furry park residents are well adapted to the cold, you can’t help but shiver as you watch the most recent captures from our “CritterCam 2” out in the backcountry of Devil’s Lake State Park.

One interesting thing that’s been going on at two of our camera locations over the last few months is the appearance of rabbits. Lots of rabbits! Even more interesting is that we’ll see rabbits, foxes, and coyotes all in the same areas within just minutes or hours of each other. I would have imagined that rabbits, foxes, and coyotes wouldn’t be hanging out so close to each other so often. Interesting!

Meanwhile over on CritterCam 1 there were more rabbits! I didn’t add them to this short clip (Below) because the best shots were of the deer and that beautiful fox!

***I should mention for those who care about such things, that Skillet Creek has had our Critter Cams out in the wilds of Devil’s Lake State Park since 2015. We have invested in these cameras so that local folks and park visitors can better appreciate the wildlife that call Devil’s Lake State Park home. It is my feeling that when decisions are made about the park, the welfare of its wildlife must be included in the state park’s “master plan”.

This project is NOT associated with the park or the DNR in any way.
