Lake Redstone Dam/Waterfall

Lake Redstone Park in Sauk County is located about 28 miles north of Devil’s Lake State Park and is popular with the locals but not well known otherwise. That said, the beach can get busy on summer weekends. The park offers a swimming beach, playground, picnic areas, and an ADA accessible bathroom. The park is also a popular fishing spot known for panfish, largemouth bass, musky, northern pike, walleye, smallmouth bass and catfish.

A Sauk County annual sticker is required on all motor vehicles stopping in any Sauk County park. You can purchase an annual sticker or a daily pass when you arrive at any park, or in advance. Day passes are $5 a day. Annuals are $25 each or two for $40.

Paddling Lake Redstone

Lake Redstone which covers over 600 acres, could be a paddler’s paradise given the amazing rock formations you’ll find along the shoreline, but many paddlers will find the lake uncomfortable due to the high number of power boats. Amongst paddlers, Redstone has always had a reputation as a scary place, especially outside of the no-wake zones. That said, if you sneak in on the southern end early in the morning, or go deep in the off-season, you can still enjoy a nice paddle. Paddlers sometimes launch from the park’s beach (long carry!) or from the county boat landing on the south-east side (See map). From the south end, stay on the eastern shore for the best rock formations.
