Located on Devil’s Lake State Park’s south shore, the newly renovated Red Oak Shelter, now known as “The Gathering Place at Red Oak” is a wonderful rental facility for your family events, weddings or business meetings. The shelter can be reserved from May 1 through October 31 each year. Public rental rates run from $200 to $900 depending on the day of the week. You should plan to reserve the shelter up to 11 months in advance!

Gathering Place at Red Oak Policies

Deposit:  A $200 key and security deposit will be paid at the same time as the reservation for all Group 3 reservations.  After the rental, adequately cleaning of the facility, the return of the key, and no damages, a refund will be issued within 10 days.  

Vehicle Admission Fees:  State Park vehicle admission stickers are required for all individuals or groups using the facility.  Reduced rate stickers are available in books of ten for $50 each and must be purchased at least 7 days in advance.  No pets are allowed in the building.

All parties using and/or renting the Gathering Place at Red Oak must comply with all local, state and federal regulations and licensing regarding food, beverage, equipment, supplies, and storage, handling and disposal of waste.  All garbage shall be disposed of in the dumpsters after the event. The reservation does not guarantee any parking will be available. Early arrival is recommended.

Rental Dates:  Reservations are accepted only from May 1 through October 31 each year.

Cancellations:  Refund requests with 21 or more days’ notice will be reimbursed 50 percent of the payment.  Refunds will not be given for cancellation request received less than 21 days before the gathering space was to be rented.

Park Hours:  The park is open from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily.  All events must end by 10:30 p.m. and all visitors must be out of the park before 11:00 p.m.

Smoking Policy:  State Law prohibits smoking in the Gathering Place at Red Oak or within 200 feet of the premise.

Catering/Contractor Policy:  You may contract directly with the caterer/contractor of your choice.  Catering/contractor vehicles need valid admission stickers and caterers/contractors must have a valid Commercial Use Permit purchased from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Any requests for outside tents or other amenities require approval from the DNR at least 7 days prior to the event.

Alcoholic Beverages:  Users shall follow all state and local ordinances regarding the consumption of alcoholic

beverages. No sale of alcohol to the public is allowed.  

Decorating:  All decorations on walls, floor ceiling or hanging, the grounds outside the building are strictly prohibited.  No taping, gluing, tacking, nailing or securing of any items is allowed. Table décor is allowed; however, no open flames are allowed.  The use of glitter, confetti, or a smoke/fog machine is strictly prohibited.

Tables and Chairs:  Tables and chairs are not allowed outside the building.  All tables and chairs shall be returned to the rack after the event has ended.

Restrooms:  The restrooms outside the gathering space are open to the public and are not exclusive to the renting party.

Music/entertainment:  All music/entertainment noise shall be contained to the inside of the building and shall not disturb other park users.

Clean-up of facility:  Groups are responsible for clean-up of the Gathering Place after their event on the same day of the event.  Failure to adequately clean the space will result in loss of the deposit.

State Park rule or law violations:  Any violations of these rule, administrative code, or state law by individuals in the group may result in the eviction of the individuals or the entire group from the property with no refund.
