Skiers on the Upland Trail Access Road.

Devil’s Lake State Park has one “Mutli-Use” loop trail which is often packed but not “tracked”. This is the Steinke Basin Loop. Parts of the Johnson Moraine Trail may be packed as well.

Depending on conditions, skiers often like to explore the park’s Uplands Trail as well. This trail is not maintained for skiing but can be fantastic in fresh show!

Bottom Line: It’s important to note that Devil’s Lake State Park’s Steinke Basin Trail is multi-use, travels through wetlands and as of this writing has severe erosion damage in some areas. Conditions have to come together just right to make skiing at Devil’s Lake a great experience. If you want to be sure that the trails are in the best conditions possible, you’re default choice should be Mirror Lake State Park just 10 minutes north of Devil’s Lake.

We regularly post trail conditions here.
