Sauk Point Trail. Ice Age Trail.

Difficulty: Medium to Difficult

Why Hike It? Uniquely peaceful hiking trail through the Baraboo Hills.

Description: The Sauk Point Trail runs between Parfrey’s Glen and the Ice Age Loop. It is part of the 1,000 mile National Scenic Ice Age Trail. From either direction, this trail entails steady, long ascents up to Sauk Point which is about 1473ft above sea level. From the Parfrey’s Glen parking to the highest point on the trail climbs around 400ft in elevation. Sauk Point offers a mix of environments and terrains, some areas are uneven and rocky. The trail can become even more challenging when muddy! Highlights include spectacular views to the south and the Wisconsin River. (4.5 miles, approximate hiking time 3 hours)

Winter Use: Not busy, but regularly used as a snowshoe trail.

Special Note: A quick look at the map will tell you that this longer trail is NOT a loop. A good idea is to drop your car at one end and have a friend shuttle you to the other and walk back, or use 2 cars, one at each end.
