Devils Lake Development

A proposed $40 million dollar “Devil’s Lake Project” imagines some 26 VBROs & 22 single-family homes, a luxury RV park, and 60 room hotel just outside of Devil’s Lake State Park’s north shore.

This proposal was just brought to our attention recently and at this time we’re not really prepared to comment however, we do want to share with you the Informational Handout which was sent to us. Click here or on the image below to open the pdf document. This development would certainly have a huge impact on the folks who live and work in this area now. So, what are your thoughts?

  1. Regarding the proposed development —
How close to the park would it be located? Also, would the traffic pattern increase congestion?
How would it affect the wildlife?
    Thank you.

    1. All good questions. What is confusing is that the map in the document is upside-down compared to normal maps. Up is south. So the proposed development is behind Tranquility & Tumbled Rocks Brewery, then continues north toward Baraboo. It is quite large. As you mention it will certainly impact traffic on at the corner of Hwy 136 & DL.. Wildlife is already so negatively impacted by development, traffic, etc., in this area, I’m not sure turning it all into a parking lot would make a difference. Much of this land has been developed in one way or another in the past as well.

  2. This has to be the worst thing I could imagine happening to the park. It’s already overcrowded and way too congested around there. Whats next? A waterpark on the north shore beach? Starbucks for a concession stand?

    1. Did you know that there used to be a “super slide” (the precursor of waterparks) right at the entrance of the park, at the corner of DL and Southshore road? You are right in that the park doesn’t need more visitors until they figure out how to manage the numbers and put enough staff and law enforcement in place…

      1. It also should be noted that some of this land historically was the location of a mini golf course and other amusement attractions.

  3. devils lake is where we come to get away from it all! With this new development ALL is coming to us.
