From today, going back far into the haze of time, the Ho-Chunk people lived on…
This weekend we were privileged to join artists and community volunteers at the Little Eagle Arts Foundation – LEAF studio to continue work on the “Te Wakącąk, Spirit Lake” art installation going into the Baraboo Middle School on the 17th of September!
Te Wakącąk or Spirit Lake is of course known today as Devil’s Lake. The point of view of the mural looks out from Messenger creek on the southwest corner of the lake toward the bluffs to the east of the lake where a Thunderbird lifts above the horizon. The point of view is illustrated in the photo above and the sketches below.
The Ho-Chunk Cultural Art Installation is right on track to be complete by the end of the month. Compliments to LEAF director Melanie Tallmadge Sainz, Rural UrbanFLOW members Muneer Bahauddeen and Martina Paterson, and everyone else who has guided the work to this point. AND thank you to them for allowing us to join in, get messy and help with the last grouting on the last panel!
