Gov. Tony Evers is issued an order that requires face coverings while indoors starting this Saturday and continuing until the end of September throughout Wisconsin.
How does this affect travelers to Wisconsin? Well, it’s complicated. Here’s a news article from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that breaks it down. Generally, since public buildings within state parks are closed already, it’s hard to imagine any changes within the park, but as always we’ll have to wait and see.
Meanwhile the city of Chicago put Wisconsin on it’s quarantine list earlier in the week because their was no mask order in the state. (Read More)
The Weekend?
How will all of this affect the weekend crowds at Devil’s Lake State Park? Well, it’s hard to guess. We have heard of some cancellations at local lodging businesses. Still, so far, no ban, attempted restriction or closure has really changed the number of visitors to the park. We’d fully expect the day-use areas to be crammed full as usual on Saturday at least. You’re the best chance at getting a parking spot is before 9 am.

Often mask restrictions are not followed substantially so enforcement is an issue. Do you have any information around who to contact when the mask mandate is not being followed in the state and at DLSP?
Is this a local police issue, ranger issue, public health? Who enforces the mandate?
Let’s just say that I don’t have a lot of faith in enforcement… in either case. We seem to be simply tossing messaging around for fun and politics… Of course, that’s just my view of it.
We have reservations to stay at Devil’s Lake. Showers are open in the campgrounds I hope. I have no problems wearing a mask and am glad to see the requirement.
