Halloween Hike This Weekend at Mirror Lake State Park
Calling all Nature Detectives! Join the State Park Staff and the Friends of Mirror Lake, this Saturday, Oct 19th from 6pm-8pm, for a fun family evening at the park as we locate clues along the easy 1-mile torch-lit trail to help find out who is our Mystery Guest. When you are not out on the trail you can enjoy some time around the bonfires along with some hot chocolate, hot cider and sweet treats that the Friends will have for sale as a fundraiser. Free, but park vehicle sticker required. The fun begins at the Beach area. Call the Park office at 608-245-2333 for details or visit friendsofmirrorlake.org.
Fall Photo Hike at Devil’s Lake
Saturday, October 19 from 4:30 – 6:00 pm – What better excuse to get outside than to go on a hike to take pictures! This will be an informal hike with a chance to get out and take pictures of Devil’s Lake in fall. This hike is a good one for amateur photographers or photographers who would like to help others take better pictures.
We will start at Steinke basin, heading up the rescue road to the top of the east bluff. Since we will be hiking near dusk, hopefully we’ll get a beautiful sunset to take pictures of from on top of the bluff.
Be sure to bring a flashlight or headlamp with you since we’ll be hiking back down at twilight. This will be about a 2-mile hike with some rugged/difficult terrain, but not too steep of hills. It can get chilly on top of the bluff, so make sure to dress in layers and bring water with you.
