Family Snow Day & Learn To Ice Fish Saturday!

Family Snow Day & Learn To Ice Fish Saturday!

This Saturday, January 20th, come out to Devil’s Lake State Park from 1 pm to 4 pm for a Family Snow Day and Learn To Ice Fish event!

Parents, bring your kids out for a day of fun in the snow (If it sticks around)!  Warm up by the fire. Participate activities to have fun on a winter’s day! Please wear proper footwear and clothing for the outdoors in winter. We’ll also have a StoryWalk set out along the north shore. Storywalks turn reading into an adventure! Designed for beginning readers, the stories will appeal to all ages.

Meanwhile, out on the ice, bundle up to learn the basics of how to ice fish. Devil’s Lake’s volunteers and staff will help you go out on the ice and try to catch a fish!  All children must be accompanied by an adult and adults are welcome! Dress warmly as there will be no shanties, but there will be a fire to warm up by on shore.
All equipment and bait are provided. This is a “Free Fishing Weekend” so no fishing license is required

This is a weather-dependent activity and can be canceled if ice conditions are not safe.

Weather & Conditions Notes

Yesterday (Monday) we received around 4 inches of light, fresh snow. We had no snow on the ground before this. Ice on the lake near the north shore was at least 6″ thick. That said, it does look like temps will rise above freezing on Saturday with a predicted high of 40F on the day of the event.  Generally, it looks like great weather, but it will probably be wet, especially on the ice.  I’d suggest having a bag of dry clothes in the car in case your kids get wet and chilly!
