Hikers and other park users have a short reprieve from the hunting season from now until December 7th, when a 4 day, Antlerless Hunt will begin. Then again, there’s another gun deer hunt in our area from December 24th to Jan 1st. So, get out on those trails when you can!
The park will also be hosting a Full Moon Hike this Saturday, December 2nd from 7 pm until about 8:30 pm. In the past, this was the first big “snowshoe” events of the year, but chances are, we’ll be hiking! There will be a wooded 2-mile hike by the light of the full moon and a warming campfire near the parking area where you can hang out and get warmed up. To really enjoy yourself, you should wear warm clothing, preferably wicking, and in layers that you can take off when you get hot walking and then put back on when you get chilled. Comfortable shoes and warm clothes for you and the kids make all the difference for winter season night hikes! Meet at the Steinke Basin Parking Lot.
