Here we are in mid-October already! On the upside, there’s been no frost in our area, the fall colors are slowly improving and there is quite a bit to do this weekend. We’ll focus on the 3 main events…
The big show at Devil’s Lake State Park this weekend is the Devil’s Lake Craggin’ Classic. This 3-day, the grassroots climbing festival features speakers, clinics, gear reps, presentations and stewardship projects that define our sport and our community. You can learn more here.
As part of the CC event, volunteers from the American Alpine Club and Wisconsin Climbers Association will be working with the Ice Age Trail Alliance to re-route the Balanced Rock trail on a particularly sketchy location that has had climbers and hikers tripping over each other for some years. Anyone who would like to help can sign up here. This also means that the popular Balanced Rock Trail will be closed all weekend as well.
Another event you may want to check out is Durward’s Glen’s Fall Festival on Saturday, October 14th. If the weather holds out, it’s a great opportunity to enjoy the fall color at a perfect location! There will be guided tractor tours of the historic grounds, artists and other vendors, bakery goods, brats and refreshments as well at this free event. Donations are welcome!!. Event held from 10 am-5 pm. Click here for Details.
Lastly, and this sounds like fun, there is the Driftless Wine & Cheese Trail Oct 13th, 14th & 15th. So, if you fancy a drink and a drive… Um, well, no. If you fancy a drink and have someone else to drive, you may want to check it out. The event includes stops at Wollersheim Winery (Who are also hosting their fall open house this weekend.), Baraboo Bluff Winery, Carr Valley Cheese and many other stops in the area. Visit the website at www.driftlesswinecheesetrail.com.
