Get Ready For The Weekend! Jul 28-30

Happy Thursday!  Well, we’re getting ready for another weekend.. Let’s hope it’s a dry one!  We’ll need the clear skies for the “Explore The Night Sky” program on Saturday!  So, let’s look at what’s up…

Friday Fish Fry

First, remember that there is a FISH FRY every Friday evening at the park through Labor Day.  Summer is flying by and if you haven’t come for a Friday Fish Fry at the Lake, make sure you come before the summer disappears! The cost is $11.50 per person which includes a 2 piece fish and 1 piece chicken meal with 3 sides. Drinks are not included.  The fish fry runs from 5:30 – 7:30 pm just out front of the North Shore Chateau.

Kayak Tours Friday & Saturday Night

Go on an adventure at Devil’s Lake by kayak! Guides will take you on a 2-hour tour of the lake exploring the geology and lake’s wildlife. Space is limited, so you’ll need to pre-register.  If you need to rent a kayak, please let us know when you register. The rental fee is $25 for a single kayak and $45 for a double. Meet at the Chateau (North Shore Concessions)

Dance to the Big Bands Saturday

It’s a Big Band Dance weekend!  Saturday night, July 29th, you can dance to the smooth sounds of the Hal Edwards Orchestra in Wisconsin’s celebrated “most romantic dance pavilion” – the Chateau.

Explore the Night Sky

Setting up the telescopes

Also on Saturday night, you can join the Madison Astronomy Society (MAS) to learn about the night sky. MAS will have several telescopes set up and show you cool features about the moon and point you towards some constellations. This is more of an informal program where you can come anytime and the MAS volunteers will set you up at one of their telescopes and show you the night sky.  The event runs from 8:30 – 10:30 pm. Meet right along the water behind the Rock Elm Shelter.
(near the North Shore Boat Launch)

Please Note: This program is very weather dependent. If there is heavy cloud cover or rain, the program will be canceled. We’ll post any cancellations on the phone messages at the Nature Center.

Music In The Park Sunday

Spend a Sunday evening at the North Shore of Devil’s Lake State Park for Music in the Park featuring Swing Crew from 6 pm to 8pm. Fun is the bottom line with this interactive, acoustic band. The shows feature a wide variety of music, audience participation, jokes, stunts, cornball humor, and toasts. Join the fun, join the show and you could be the recipient of The Swing Crew bumper sticker.  This is a FREE concert sponsored by the Friends of Devil’s Lake State Park and will be held on the north shore right by the Chateau.

Remember, if you’ve never been to Devil’s Lake State Park before or just want to hike a new trail, stop up at the Devil’s Lake Nature Center for “Find A Trail” Thursday, Friday, and Saturday morning from 9-10am. The naturalists will have info, offer tips and more to make sure you have a great day on the trails.

I created several images at this event and talked with Sue about submitting some for your permanent record. How do I do that?
Please respond with email so I know how to submit. See images at the MAS Facebook page
