It’s Voyagers, Big Band Dancing, Kayak Tours and more this weekend at Devil’s Lake State Park! And don’t forget Shakespeare in the Park at Mirror Lake on Sunday!

Paddle A Voyager Canoe

Friday, July 14 – Drop-in Between 1:00 pm – Dusk
Saturday, July 15 – Drop-in Between 9:00 am – Dusk
Activities will happen at the North Shore Boat Launch
This is a FREE program for everyone!
Presented by Fox of the River Voyageur Canoe LLC – Back by popular demand! Paddle a 28 foot canoe! Join us for a truly a hands-on experience in history and camaraderie into the fur trade era and the lives of its most colorful participants – the Voyageurs. You’ll get to paddle a Voyageur canoe and learn about the Voyageur way of life. You will step into the past with Jean Paul Pauquette and Jacques Largillier as your guides. This is a free program! There is no charge to paddle the canoe.

Explore the Night Hike

Friday, July 14

Meet at the Steinke Basin Parking LotExplore the world of nocturnal (active at night) animals. Bring your sense of adventure as we search and listen for things that move around in the dark. We’ll use some of our high-tech gear (thermal imagers and trail cameras) to discover the secrets of the night!

Dance to the Big Band sounds of the Hal Edwards Orchestra in Wisconsin’s celebrated “most romantic dance pavilion” – the Chateau. Join us as we relive the glory years.


Devil’s Lake Kayak Tours

Every Friday and Saturday in July from 6:30-8:30 pm
Go on an adventure at Devil’s Lake by kayak! Guides will take you on a 2-hour tour of the lake exploring the geology and lake’s wildlife. Space is limited, so you’ll need to preregister.  If you need to rent a kayak, please let us know when you register. The rental fee is $25 for a single kayak and $45 for a double. Meet at the Chateau (North Shore Concessions) To register, please contact the Nature Center at (608) 356-8301 ext. 140.

Shakespeare in the Park

Comedy of Errors at the Mirror Lake State Park Amphitheatre, Sunday at 1 pm – 4 pm.  Does your kid think Shakespear is old and boring? Think again! Join us for a workshop for kids 8 yrs and up. Learn at 1 pm, show at 2:30. This is an interactive experience for kids by Summit Players Theatre and fun, fun, fun. This program was well received by families at Mirror Lake last summer and we are glad to have them back this year. Free, but state vehicle sticker required to enter the park. Learn more at
