Dr. Evermor’s Art Park just south of Devil’s Lake State Park on Hwy 12, is open Thursday through Monday 11 am – 5 pm (Although hours can vary.) and Sunday from noon to 5 pm.
I’ve had a few questions about Dr. Evermore’s recently given that the big sculptures along the road have been removed and that there are some real estate signs nearby. From the road, it’s all a bit confusing, but Dr. Evermor’s Art Park is certainly open and worth the stop as always. Properties around the park are for sale.
Dr. Evermor’s Forevertron is said to be the largest scrap metal sculpture in the world, standing over 50 feet tall. According to Wikipedia, “The sculpture incorporates two Thomas Edison dynamos from the 1880s, lightning rods, high-voltage components from 1920s power plants, scrap from the nearby Badger Army Ammunition Plant, and the decontamination chamber from the Apollo 11 spacecraft.”
The Forevertron is surrounded by a menagerie of other sculptors, oddities and well, junk. As I told my teenage son yesterday, “He was steampunk before there was steampunk.” It all makes for a weird and wonderful wander. We’ve posted a few more photos below. Dr. Evermor’s Park is located at S7703 Highway 12 just across from the Sauk Prairie Recreation Area. Click here for a Google Map. Admission is free, but donations are accepted and a good idea! If you’ve not been there before, be sure to check it out!
