Upcoming Winter Volunteer Opportunities

Winter has come to Devil’s Lake State Park and we’ll need help with some upcoming winter events – starting in January. See below for more details.

I want to thank everyone who has volunteered this year! I greatly appreciate all the time and effort you put into making our programs great and helping to improve the trails and the park! – Sue Johansen, Park Naturalist

First Day Hike
January 1
3:30 – 5:00 pm
Location: Devil’s Lake’s Steinke Basin.

We need people to help with the First Day Hike. This hike has gotten more popular over the years (we had over 70 people come last year) and we could use some help!

Hike Helpers: With large groups, it’s great to split everyone into smaller group to fit people’s needs. If you feel comfortable taking a group for a hike around Steinke Basin, let me know.

Pass Out Snowshoes: We have snowshoes participants can borrow for free during the hike. We could use people at the beginning of the event to help pass out the snowshoes and help participants put them on. You’d need to be there at least a 1/2 hour before the event so we can get everything organized.

Learn to Ice Fish

Rock Elm Shelter on the North Shore

If you are someone who likes to ice fish, we can use your help! We need people to help participants learn about ice fishing and get a chance to catch a fish.

The Nature Center does have some equipment:
Jig poles

Gas auger
Hand auger
