(Updated Tue, Dec. 20 @4pm): As of Tuesday Dec. 20th Devil’s Lake State Park’s Steinke Basin parking area has been plowed and the Steinke Basin Loop has been groomed. Trails at Mirror Lake State Park have been groomed since the weekend and are in tip-top condition.
Of course we love Devil’s Lake State Park, but honestly if you want your ski trails in great condition you should head over to Mirror Lake State Park where they have a well-earned reputation for great trails. At Devil’s Lake, trail conditions are sketchy at best. Hikers and dog walkers use the trails regularly and grooming is hit-n-miss.
Mirror Lake State Park
Mirror Lake has over 17 miles of Ski Trails! On Saturday the Mirror Lake State Park Friends group was reporting on Facebook that the trails had already been groomed at their park in the midst of the recent snowfall! On our visit mid-day Sunday, the trails looked spectacular and even the new outlying parking lots were cleared.
It was great to see the new parking lot near Mirror Lake’s Fern Dell gorge was plowed over the weekend. It gave us the opportunity to put on our snowshoes, enjoy the fresh power and go out to see this year’s Ice floes.. THAT, will be the next blog!
