Fresh Snow!

Fresh Snow!

There’s snow! If you’ve waited for your opportunity to cross-country ski or snowshoe at Devil’s Lake State Park, this is it! The latest storm dumped anywhere from 6 to 8 inches of fresh powder here in the Baraboo Hills. (The photo above is from Steinke Basin this morning.). Now, keep in mind that Devil’s Lake State Park’s ski trails are seldom groomed and are usually not in the best of shape. While the trails look great now, It’s hard to tell what condition they will be in on the weekend after a few days of hikers and dogs using the trails as well. Still, right now, if you can get to the park it’s pretty sweet.  If you are looking for groomed ski trails, head over to Mirror Lake State Park.

When it comes to snowshoeing, you’re free to explore anywhere within the park of course. Fresh snow makes snowshoeing a real blast!  If you don’t own snowshoes, remember that it’s possible to borrow a pair for free at the park’s Nature Center.
