A Lot To Do This Weekend!

Hard to believe that it’s the last weekend in May already and June begins next week!  Well, I’m not going to complain, it’s warm, the sky is blue and there is a lot to do this weekend here in Baraboo hills region of Wisconsin.  So let’s get have a look.

Well, first off there is a lot going on at Devil’s Lake State Park including a Bat Watch this evening and the first kayak tour of the year tomorrow night..

Lawn Chair Bat Watch – Friday 8 p.m.

It’s a great time to bring a comfy lawn chair and watch the bats! We’ll park our chairs by the bat condo (North Shore) and watch the bats emerge from the houses. We’ll have fun bat information and a bat scavenger hunt for the kids to do while the wait to the bats to emerge.  Meet at the bat condo near the north shore boat launch.

Animal Feeding Day – Saturday 11 a.m.

Watch the animals in the Nature Center have lunch! Watch the box turtles munch on some salad. See the gartersnake slurp down a fish. Look at the treefrogs as the tackle a cricket or two.  Meet at the Nature Center. (Program lasts about an hour)

Devil’s Lake Kayak Tour – 6:30 p.m.

Take a guided kayak tour and find a new way to explore Devil’s Lake! As we paddle, we’ll look for all sorts of wildlife (birds, fish, and mammals) and check out some of the geology and history too. There is a limited amount of space, so we ask you to preregister prior to the event. If you need to rent a kayak, please let us know when you register. The rental fee is $25 for a single kayak and $45 for a double. The kayak tours will start from the north shore boat launch. To register, please contact the Nature Center at (608) 356-8301 ext. 140.

Events Around Baraboo

There are a couple of community events worth mentioning as well including the annual “Zoo Crew” fundraiser at Ochsner’s Park & the downtown Baraboo Sunday Market…

31st Annual Zoo Crew Day – 11am

11am to 3pm – All-You-Can-Eat Pizza Hut Pizza & Pasta in the park. All proceeds are used to fund Ochsner Park Zoo Building Projects, Funds raised from this event will be used to build a River Otter Exhibit at the Zoo. Other activities include: 2nd annual Ottter walk/run, ZooZart Exotic Animal Program, Live Music, Beer Garden & More. Ochsner’s Park is located in Baraboo.

Downtown Baraboo Sunday Market – 10am

The Downtown Baraboo Sunday Market runs from 10am to 3 pm and includes Antique Dealers, Collectors, Artisans and Crafters selling their work on the streets of Downtown Baraboo.
