It finally feels like summer, well, in between the rain drops anyway! This weekend looks to be warm in the Devil’s Lake region with chances for rain on Saturday and Sunday. (Par for the course this year it seems.) So let’s have a look at some of the things to do in the area this weekend…
At Devil’s Lake State Park
There is still time to get in on the Devil’s Lake kayak tour this evening. Last I heard about 15 people were signed up already! Details: Take a guided kayak tour and find a new way to explore Devil’s Lake! We’ll paddle the lake looking for all sorts of wildlife (birds, fish, mammals) and check out some of the geology and history too. The kayak tours will start at the park’s north shore we’ll spend the first half an hour gathering and learning how to use our kayaks. The tour will take about 90 minutes. There is a limited amount of space, so we ask you to preregister prior to the event. If you need to rent a kayak, please let us know when you register. The rental fee is $25. To register, please contact Sue Johansen (naturalist) at (608) 356-8301 ext. 141.
On Saturday there is something going on at the park pretty much all day. Our favorites are the “Wild Lunch” at 11am where you can stop in and watch the park naturalist feed all the animals in the nature center including the new milk & garter snakes. There is a Big Band Dance at the Chateau at 7:30 PM and you can “Explore The Night Sky” with the Madison Astronomy Society at 8pm. For all the details just click here.
