Gibraltar Rock
Outside of Devil’s Lake State Park, Gibraltar Rock State Natural Area near Lodi offers some of the most spectacular vistas in the state. Gibraltar stands some 1,234 feet above sea level while it’s sheer 200 foot cliffs offer an amazing view of Wisconsin River valley. Miles of rolling hills and farmland spread out to the south and east while Lake Wisconsin and the Baraboo range provide a stunning backdrop to the north. Visitors must park at the base of Gibraltar rock then hike up. The trail is a closed road of mixed gravel and crumbling blacktop. (You must squeeze around the gate at the bottom of the road.) While there are no steps some visitors may still find the winding climb to the top quite challenging.
Safety – Hiking trails along the cliffs can be dangerous in wet and icy weather. There are no gates or handrails and suffice to say you would be unlikely to survive a fall. Parents should be particularly careful along the cliffs with kids. Rock Climbing is not allowed at Gibraltar Rock. (Scroll down for Map & Directions)

Gibraltar Rock State Natural Area is about a 40 minute drive from Devil’s Lake State Park including a ferry ride (in season) across Lake Wisconsin. Simply take County DL from the north shore of the park east to Highway 113 to Merrimac. Follow the directions to the free ferry and cross Lake Wisconsin. Once across the lake, turn left to stay on Highway 113 and continue toward Lodi. Turn right on County Rd. V which will take you to Gibraltar Rock. Zoom in on the map above for more details.
