We’ve made a few changes to the layout of DevilsLakeWisconsin.com for the new season. You’ve probably noticed them already, but here are some of the highlights..
First, we’ve moved the main navigation bar all the way to the top of the page, and removed the drop-down choices. Frankly, we we’re simply adding too much content to make the drop-down menus effective. The most important change here is that the INFO CENTER is now a very straight forward site map with links to all the content at DEVILSLAKEWISCONSIN.COM. Our hope here is that this new simplified format will make it easier for you to find the information you need, and give you a better opportunity to explore the volumes of information that used to be somewhat buried in site. The trick to enjoying the Perseid meteor shower on Saturday, August 11th, is getting away from the city lights and finding a big patch of open sky. The Persieds this time around display up to 50 per hour in our area. The shower is best viewed after midnight Saturday until the sun begins to rise again on Sunday morning. Most campers at Devil’s Lake will have a great view right from their campsites. For the rest of us, the park closes at 11pm so we’ll have to find somewhere else to view the meteor shower. While the meteors radiate out of the north-east, the best way to view the shower is simply to lay on the ground or in a nice lounge chair and look directly up.
Here’s a bit more on the Perseid shower from EarthSky.org
Remember, for daily pics, news and happenings here in the Baraboo Hills, join us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/skilletcreek
Over 1,700 of you interact with us every day on our very active Facebook page and that’s Fantastic! Still, we do get feedback from some of you who simply don’t do the whole “Facebook” thing, but still would like to see our photos, videos, events, links and stories. (We even toss in a music video now and again!) Well, just for you, we’ve opened our new Skillet Creek Tumblr page. Just visit the page, follow us if you like, or get the RSS feed. And of course, keep that feedback coming! We’ll do our best to listen!
P.T. Barnum once said, “Without promotion something terrible happens… Nothing!” So with that in mind, it’s time for us along with WRPQ 99.7 FM to give away 4 Free Passes To Circus World here in Baraboo good for the 2012 Season…
BUT, it gets a little silly from here..
Over the next week, I’m going to be randomly posting a variety of, shall we say, “unique” ways that you can enter our “It’s A Circus!” contest over on our Facebook page. For each one you catch and complete you’ll be entered again. Then on Monday June 11th we’ll draw the winner. Confused? That’s O.K. So am I and I’m running the thing!!
Of course if you prefer to avoid all the silliness, simply send your name & hometown to firstname.lastname@example.org, with the subject line “I Love Circus World!” and we’ll enter you in the drawing. See that was pretty simple right?
Otherwise, watch our Facebook page over the next week for more opportunities to enter.
The official 2012 Devil’s Lake State Park Visitor’s Guide is now available online. This is the same guide you pick up each year at the park office. This year’s focus is the history of our 101 year old park and shares a great number of historic photographs. The guide also includes the years events, depth map, driving tour and more. Now, if you’ve never played with E-Versions of publications before, you’ll be glad for reading the instructions.. Otherwise, just click the lower right hand corner of the cover, (Look for the peel-up) and drag it open.
