On Sunday we attended the annual Sauk County Earth Day event held in Rock Springs, Wisconsin. Turnout was light but the weather was fantastic and the outdoor hikes were lots of fun.
Retired naturalist Ken Lange led 2 nature hikes at Ableman’s Gorge State Natural area which was less than a mile from the Earth Day events at the local community center.
Current Devil’s Lake State Park Naturalist, Sue Johansen begin the Earth Day weekend with a “Bats & Beverages” hike on Friday evening. Unfortunately only 2 bats were detected on the hike. The hope is that this was simply because it was a cold evening and not due to white nose syndrome which is decimating bat populations across the country. Still, everyone enjoyed seeing the technology used not only to find the bats but identify them as well!
On Sunday the North Freedom Community Center hosted about 19 vendors for the day. Here are a few pics from that event.
