Changes for North Shore

Changes for North Shore

A new retaining wall is going in on the north shore beach area of Devil’s Lake State Park.  The walls should help keep the sand on the beach and the dirt in the grass.  We’ll see. One interesting note is that this is a pretty major change in the look of the park’s north shore. Much like comparing modern photos with those from the hotel & cottage days, all of your “pre-wall” photos are now going to show your age..  Nothing is as constant as change…

I’m not sure that I’m a fan of the prefabricated white “stone” walls. It would seem that something respecting the natural red Baraboo quartzite and the historic CCC stone construction styles of the park would have been preferable. Does it matter? What do you think?

I am always happy when there is upkeep…keeping things tidy and usable for the folks…but I agree, with all the native natural raw material, it would have been super beautiful to incorporate that natural stone into the new improvements…Thanks for the photos showing us what is happening at our fav lake and park.
