O.K. We’re calling “Peak” right now. It doesn’t help that it’s been raining for a couple of days which has cleared the leaves off many trees which peaked a week or so ago. Still right now is when you’ll get that awesome North Shore Entrance Road shot that everyone wants to get at Devil’s Lake. We hiked the Uplands Trail last evening and large sections were so colorful that it was simply unreal. We’d also suggest the East Bluff Woods trail this weekend for amazing colors.
If you want to stay in your car, the best colors seem to be on Devil’s Lake’s South Shore Road and on Hwy 113 from Baraboo south to Merrimac. Really though, you’ll find great colors everywhere for the next few days. Weekend weather (Saturday Oct 18 & Sun Oct. 19th) looks good too. It would be a great time to try out our suggested scenic drives as well. Click here for that info.
One last note about the upcoming weekend; On Saturday the Friends of Mirror Lake State Park will be hosting their annual Halloween Mystery Candlelight Hike. (Mirror Lake State Park is just a few minutes drive north of Devil’s Lake near Wisconsin Dells.) Certainly one of our favorite family events each year. From 6-8pm kids of all ages can find clues and discover the mystery guest. The friends group will have food and drinks available for purchase as well. Click here for more details.
So there you go. Peak color this weekend because we said so. But of course, what do we know, eh? 🙂
