O.K. Let’s get right to the fall colors. This year it seems the trees are changing in a more relaxed easy manner and taking their time to do it. We won’t be at “Peak” color this weekend. HOWEVER, there are some great colors out there everywhere. We were especially impressed driving down the twisting and turning “Snake Road” on South Shore. It’s best around 10am. There’s also some great colors in the North & South shore picnic and parking areas. It’s also worth a drive around any of the country roads here in the Baraboo hills right now. Still, if I had to make a call, I’d say we’ll hit peak sometime next week..
Which brings me to the weekend events. First, I will be taking anyone who wants to come out on a free photo hike and workshop tomorrow from about 1pm to 4pm at Devil’s Lake State Park. Click Here For Details. This will be a relaxed, easy-going session where everyone can get out and take fall photos and I’ll be along to offer tips and help with nasty things like shutter speeds, apertures, ISOs, framing and whatever other questions you may have along the way. Remember, you will need a park sticker for your car!
Also on Saturday, you may want to head into Baraboo’s historic Downtown Square for the annual Fall Fair on the Square. This event goes from 9 am to 4 pm and offers an Arts & Crafts show, live performances, lots of food and entertainment for the whole family. Details.
Another way to enjoy the autumn colors this weekend is to head over to Durward Glen’s Fall Festival. Enjoy guided tractor tours, artists and other vendors, flea market, french bakery, bake sale, brats, potato bar and refreshments. The event is free, but donations warmly welcomed. Visit their website for details.
Reedsburg’s Fermentation Fest and Art DTour runs through Sunday and is a great opportunity to road trip through idyllic rural Wisconsin countryside to take some interesting art, outdoor performances and of course check out the fall colors. Click here for details.
Mid-Continent Railway Museum in North Freedom, WI., just 10 minutes from Baraboo, will be offering their Autumn Color Train Rides from Oct 10th through the 12th. See fall colors by train! Click here for that info!
Wow, that’s a lot to do this weekend. Well, whatever you’re plans.. enjoy the beautiful fall colors and be safe out there. Drivers get a bit distracted this time of year!!
