Holy Bat Paddle, Batman! This Friday, June 13th you can join Devil’s Lake State Park Naturalist, Sue Johansen (..and me too actually!!) for a unique way to enjoy the bats of Devil’s Lake, by kayak or canoe! We’ll launch around dusk and head out to watch the bats swoop and glide as hunt for their dinner. You’ll need to bring your own kayak, canoe, or boat to take part, but we’ll bring the glow sticks. Headlamps are a great idea, however you want to be sure they have the option for red lighting to protect your (and everyone else’s) night vision.
Watching bats plucking bugs out of the air just above the surface of the lake is an amazing and truly unique experience… Not to mention night paddling on Devil’s Lake as well. 🙂 Be at the boat launch ready to go Friday night at 8:30 pm. We expect to be out on the water until around 10pm.
If you have any questions, just contact Sue Johansen at (608) 356-8301 Ext. 140 – SusanA.Johansen@wisconsin.gov
AND BY THE WAY….
Thursday Night, June 12th, is the next Lawn Chair Bat Watch starting at 8:30 p.m. It’s a great time to bring a comfy lawn chair and watch the bats! We’ll park our chairs by the bat condo and watch the bats emerge from the houses. We’ll have fun bat information and a bat scavenger hunt for the kids to do while the wait to the bats to emerge. Meet at the bat condo (near the north shore boat launch)
