For The Birds (& Birders!)
There is an amazing variety of birds enjoying the spring weather on Devil’s Lake right now including; Loons, Coots, Mergansers, Buffelheads, Cranes, Osprey and many more. We’ve been posting a lot of birdy portraits on our Facebook page over the last week or so and will keep posting them as we see new species. If you’re not a Facebook type, we are also posting pictures to our “Birds of Devil’s Lake” gallery on Flickr. Click here to go to the gallery.
Events – April 26 & 27th, 2013
If you are into birding, you might want to join our park’s naturalist this evening from 6:30 pm to 8 pm for a timberdoodle watch. Experience the amazing courtship display of the timberdoodle, better known as the American woodcock. Steinke Basin is great stage to watch the males’ amazing spiraling flight and song. Bring a comfortable chair or blanket and binoculars. Meet at the Steinke Basin parking lot.
Tomorrow you can join me for a photography outing from 10:30 am until noon. Bring your camera and your questions. We’ll head up the east bluff and see what we can see! (And maybe we’ll see what we can find along the lake as well!) Meet at the Nature Center.
Tomorrow night, you can join the naturalist again for a twilight hike from 7:30 to 9:00 pm - As the sun sets and the light fades from the sky, a new group of animals awakens. We will explore the world of the crepuscular (active at dusk and dawn) and nocturnal (active at night) animals. Bring your sense of adventure as we search and listen for things that move around at night. Meet at the Steinke Basin Parking lot.
See you at the park!
