Return of the Peepers
You can’t have a “Frog Safari” if you don’t have any frogs and considering how cool it’s been this spring, that was a real worry. Well, last night we took a quick hike out to the frog ponds on Devil’s Lake State Park’s Johnson Moraine trail and indeed the frogs were signing away. In fact, we really didn’t need to hike at all, you could hear them from the Steinke Basin parking lot! CLICK HERE FOR THE SOUNDS OF THE FROGS.
This Saturday, April 20th, from 7:30 to 9:30 you can join Devil’s Lake State Park’s Naturalist, Susan Johansen for the first “Frog Safari” of the new year. On this nocturnal trip to the park’s kettle ponds, you’ll listen for spring peepers, wood frogs, and chorus frogs. You will also explore what other night sounds can be heard as you hike the Johnson Moraine Trail. Bring your flashlight! Meet at the Steinke Basin parking lot.
