Torchlight Hike Under A Clear Starlit Sky
Hikers, skiers, snowshoers and outdoor folks of all ages filled the trails and surrounded the big bonfires of last weekend’s Friends of Mirror Lake State Park Torchlight event. The fresh snow and clear skies made for a particularly perfect night out on the trails. Out among the towering pines the world was almost silent except for distant laughter and the crunching of our snowshoe cleats in the snow. A blanket of the white stuff covered pines and glistened in deep, sparking blues, reflecting starlight. The torches that marked the way added an occasional warming golden glow along the trails. Although the temperatures hung in the single digits, there was a good turn out for the event as always. People lined up to buy hot cider, brats and hot chocolate before heading on over to one of the two big bonfires.
The only downside was that it was nearly impossible to catch such a low light event on camera. We did however get a short video clip near the fire and food stand to share with you below.
