All About Raptors
On Friday night we had the special pleasure of attending a presentation of the Raptor Education Group at the River Arts Center in Sauk Prairie as part of the annual Eagle Watching Days. I think we walked away with 2 stand out facts. The first is that many of the bald eagles brought into the center for care are suffering from lead poisoning. It seems that the eagles are eating the gut piles of animals left behind by hunters. The solution would be for hunters to stop using shells containing lead. The second factoid we walked away with was that the fastest animal in the world is not the cheetah as you might think, it’s the Peregrine Falcon which can dive at nearly 200 miles per hour. Wow! Interesting!
