Autumn’s Golden Time
Alright park fanatics, can you tell me what road this photograph was taken from. (It’s not DL)
Let’s face it. It’s not getting any more colorful out there. The Baraboo hills are becoming a tapestry of golds, browns and deep dark maroons. That’s too be expected of course. October is coming to an end, and along with it Daylight Savings Time which means by next week it won’t only be less colorful, but it will be much darker, much earlier as well. Can measurable snow be far behind? Well. Don’t give up all hope. We’ve got a fun weekend on tap here at the park and in the Baraboo Area for Halloween. Heck, there is even a bit of color as well..

Let’s Kick off the weekend events information with Boo Fest which is the local safe trick-or-treat bash put on by Baraboo’s Downtown businesses. Boofest is held tomorrow (Friday), 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the square in downtown Baraboo. People can donate $1 to the food pantry and get access to a haunted house, cookie making, arts and crafts, a pumpkin toss, a kids and pet costume contest and a musical puppet show. Streets won’t be closed so be careful around traffic.
Here’s your weekend Candlelight Hike info: The Hike runs Saturday, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the North Shore of Devil’s Lake State Park. Start at the Rock Elm Shelter, where warming fires will be available, and chili, cookies and hot drinks may be purchased. Costumes optional. A park sticker is required and is available at the visitor center. For information, call the park at (608) 356-8301.
How about Trick-or-Treating with Big Cats? - Trick or Treat with the Big Cats. Also on Saturday, 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Wisconsin Big Cat Rescue and Educational Center, in Rock Springs. No entrance fee for trick-or-treaters, but donations will be accepted. For directions, call (608) 524-5466.
I know Karaoke is always scary, but it’s even scarier when held at the Old Baraboo Inn which some allege is haunted as it is! The Old Baraboo Inn is located on 135 Walnut St. not far from the lake. There will be free prizes & raffle. Party starts at 8pm. No cover charge.
Oh, and if you just want to see fall colors…

There are still little pockets of color around the park. This image is from the south shore parking lot. It’s still really beautiful here and there. The darker colors on the hills around the lake often serve as perfect backgrounds to the trees that still look as if they have caught fire.
