Durward’s Glen

The autumn colors are certainly out in full regalia in the Baraboo area right now.  The recent blast of cold did just what you would expect and forced a fast onset of bright colors.  The only downside is the seemingly constant clouds.  Still, there have been windows where we can get out and enjoy the color in and around the lake.  The pictures today are from Durward’s Glen which is located in the Baraboo hills just a few miles east of the Park.

Durward’s Glen is a retreat owned by the Catholic, Magdalen liberal arts college in Warner, New Hampshire.  Visitors are welcome to walk the grounds and the nature trail as long as they respect and maintain the quiet atmosphere fitting a religious retreat.

Visitors will enjoy a short but beautiful wooded trail, a small stream and gorge about half the size of Parfrey’s Glen and a beautiful pond surrounded by woods and benches.  The religious retreat also has a trail that follows the seven stations of the cross up to a cemetery and small chapped built in the mid-1800s.  There are many, many little nooks and benches around the property where one can find a spot all their own from which to contemplate the meaning of life, the universe and everything.
