fog walk 08

We had some amazing atmosphere a couple days ago when the air tempratures suddenly climbed near 50f for a day and filled the world with a thick fog.  I of course spent much of the day out roaming around the park taking in the spring-like air and being a shutter bug.  I’ve not yet begun to sort through all the images but at first glance you get the feeling you’re on the set of Narnia.

I hope everyone had a great holiday.  If you’ve not heard yet, Devil’s Lake State Park will not be putting in a new raised trail at Parfrey’s Glen to replace the one that was washed out in last year’s flooding.  Although I think it was pretty fancy and did keep the damange to local plant life down, I think we’ll survive that one.

In the winter the road is closed off and the locals take advantage of the nice steep slope.

Quiet Season

The hunters have much of the park to themselves, the lake is still open so the ice fishermen can’t get out yet, and for most it’s just too cold to hike. Even here at the website only about 200 people a day stop by. Quite a change from the over 2000 that come each day during the peak summer season. Read the rest of this entry »
