Flood

For the first time in some years the North Shore picnic area has flooded. Various areas within the park are underwater or at the least very wet. Most campsites are fine although a few may be particularly wet. If you have a campsite reserved for the weekend and find it to be too wet the park will do their best to find you a dryer site. I spoke with the rangers today and they tell me that the biggest issue right now is just moving around the park since some roads are now underwater as well.

More rain in the forecast for the rest of the week. Had plans for camping this coming weekend. Should we just postpone?
Hard to say. Depending on where your campsite is located chances are it’s fine. The lake is high as I’ve mentioned so there are no beaches and of course there is other flooding here and there. On the other hand it’s a rare thing to get to see this. There are plenty of areas that are dry, the Chateau is open, still plenty of picnic areas and trails to explore. If it were me, I’d just make it part of the adventure, but of course I may be a bit crazier than most.
I just wonder if all hiking trails are accessible, especially the Balanced Rock, CCC, and Devil’s Doorway…
Hi, Yeah you can get in to that area of south shore road. Just the bit right by the lake is flooded. The west bluff trail is closed for repairs at the moment though.
Are they charging a cancellation fee to reschedule the trip? I had made reservations last week before all this happened.
We also are coming this weekend to the northern lights campground sites 127-135. Any problems here? Also we have the shelter booked on the south shore attached to the store. Is it open?
We were planning some climbing on the weekend of 6/20-22. Is the climbing open?
I would love to see more pictures of the flooding. Glad everyone there is okay. We are shocked to see the picture of Lake Delton. WOW
We are camping at the group sites with kids. Is it really wet, muddy, etc? Will it be difficult for the kids to walk the CCC Trails?
Hi All,
It’s hard for me to speak about specific campsites. All campgrounds are well away from the lake. The park is saying about 20 sites are mucky and they are making other arrangements for those folks.
Peter – You can certainly go climbing. Again other than some low lying areas, the park is open.
Kim – The south shore shelter by the store is above the high water. You can actually see it in the picture of people on the south shore in the flood gallery I’ve added to the photo galleries page.
Deb – your wish is my command. . . the gallery is there now. (see above)
Melissa – You’ll have to call on that one. I don’t know if they have made any special arrangements. Call 608-356-8301
Kathy,
You may want to call about the group sites but they are located in an area where I think they would be fine. Certainly most of the trails are high and dry. Just the Tumbled Rocks trail is closed due to high water as far as I know at the moment.
Are the hiking paths closed?
Is the South Shore Road available to be drivin on
I’ve got reservations for next weekend for tent camping at Ice Age Campground. What shape is that in?
Thanks.
Can people still drive on South Shore Road? We are going this weekend, will it be better by then?
Hi- we wanted to climb this coming weekend. Is there a climbing group that will lead climbs that we can call to arrange some climbs? We are coming in from out of state. Thanks
We have reservations for Monday 6/16 in the Ice Age section, namely 464, 465 & 466. Are those sites dry?
Can any 1 tell me if the Northern lights camp grounds are closed? and is there another way to get to the camping sites? Site #193 is what I am asking about?!?!?!!?!?!?!
I can’t seem to get through on the phone to ask about our site we reserved (NL 232) for this weekend. Any other way to check it’s condition?
Thanks!
check the latest blog post to stay up to date. things change quickly in these conditions . . as of today (Friday 13th of all days) the park is closed. Staff will review the status again on Wed.
Hello eveybody hope all is nice and dry !!! We camp at Devil’s lake evey year its been a tradition since i can remember. We we’re all bummed our with the flooding news. But now that it seems ok we have planned to come over the 4th of July weekend and following week. One of our must favorite activities is boating. Do you know when the boating area will be open?
thank you,
Francisca
Our group’s been coming up for 15+ years. Can you tell us about the group sites and the roads leading to those areas and to the lake from the group sites?
Also, it’s become sort of a family thing, since many have had kids over the years. Are there things we should be aware of with children in a range of ages (all who love camping and the lake!!)
Thank you!
