North Shore "Beach"

Now is a good time to start getting used to the idea that there may not be much for sandy beaches at Devil’s Lake for awhile.  Yeah, we’ve been here before, 2000, 2002 if I remember accurately.  The funny thing each time were the calls and emails from people who actually thought someone could do something about it! I used to envision a Devil’s Lake Bucket Patrol passing pails hand to hand from the lake to the stream that flows a few hundred yards north east of the lake.  Then of course the DNR (Department of Natural Resources) actually put in a draining system to remove phosphorus from the bottom of the lake, and we got a bonus. . a bath tub with a drain! Still, the lake is not a bath tub and nature is nature. Even with the drain, water goes down slowly. .and if we get lots of rain all bets are off!  I can keep you posted here, but now’s probably a good time to accept that sand castles may be out of the picture for awhile.  I’ll post a gallery of the high water in the next few days.

Our family has been going to Devil’s Lake for over 40 years. The beauty of the lake is that it is “Naturally” made……you never know what it will be like from year to year. Some years sand, some not…..some times trails open, some times not…. nature in action–WHAT A BEAUTIFUL THING….counting the days for this years 2 weeks of paradise. :)
